Join Richmond in defending its title as Canada’s Most Active Community

Richmond, BC – After earning the title of Canada’s Most Active Community in 2025, the City of Richmond is once again encouraging everyone to get active for the 2026 ParticipACTION Community Challenge. Throughout the month of June, anyone who lives, works or plays in Richmond is invited to take part in more than 100 free or low-cost activities for all ages as the City promotes community-wide participation in this nationwide initiative.
This year's Community Challenge features activities offered by the City and community partners, including:
- Getting Active One Step at a Time Bingo Card Challenge at Steveston Community Centre
- Fitness Marathon at Thompson Community Centre
- Cycle Fit at City Centre and West Richmond Community Centres
- Sports Day at South Arm Community Centre
- Swim to Survive for Newcomers at Minoru Centre for Active Living
- Walk Richmond guided walks at McDonald Beach, Finn Slough, Burkeville Park - Sea Island and Middle Arm Dike
In addition to joining the programs and activities available at Richmond community facilities, organizations, schools and businesses are encouraged to join the Community Challenge. New this year, active groups of two or more people can also contribute directly to Richmond’s score by registering and tracking their activities such as walking clubs or running groups.To get involved in the Community Challenge:
- Register your group through the ParticipACTION website (participACTION.com/signup) then track your participation in your active programs and events hosted between June 1 and 30.
- Refer co-workers, friends and family to join the Challenge. When they register their active group or organization, both of you will be entered into a prize draw.
Richmond has proudly participated in the Community Challenge since 2019. In addition to earning the title of Canada's Most Active Community in 2025, Richmond was recognized as British Columbia's Most Active Community in both 2022 and 2024, reflecting the community's ongoing commitment to active living.For a complete list of ParticipACTION Community Challenge activities and information on registering an active group or organization, visit richmond.ca/participACTION .
